Accessible Seating is available at all Texas Performing Arts venues. When purchasing ADA seats online, select the icon under the performance date for ADA seating.

Assistive Listening

Assistive Listening Devices are available at all Bass Concert Hall events. You may use the headphones provided or request a T-Coil Loop for direct connection to your hearing aids. Your hearing aid must have the T-Coil function to properly operate with the T-Coil Loop. This service is free of charge, but a driver’s license is required for loan of equipment.

Assistive Listening Devices are not available for events in McCullough Theatre and Hogg Memorial Auditorium.

Sign Interpreted Performances

American Sign Language interpreted performances are offered for the first Saturday matinee during the run of a Broadway in Austin show. Requests for seating with a view of the ASL interpreter area can be made by calling the Texas Performing Arts Ticket Office at 512.471.1444 or by email.

Requests for all other performances should be made at least two weeks in advance. Services are not guaranteed for all events and are subject to the availability of an interpreter.

Summer Stock Austin Sign Interpreted Performances:

Includes live American Sign Language interpretation for patrons who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Audio Described Performances

Audio description is available for the Thursday evening performance during the run of a Broadway in Austin show. Requests for audio description can be made by calling the Texas Performing Arts Ticket Office at 512.471.1444 or by email.

Sensory Friendly Performances

 

Sensory-friendly performances are designed to create a welcoming environment for people with sensory sensitivities, including those on the autism spectrum. Everyone is invited to enjoy theatre in a relaxed, supportive environment.

The integrity of the performance remains the same, while production elements are modified to accommodate individuals with sensory needs, allowing everyone to enjoy an authentic performance experience together.

BEFORE THE PERFORMANCE 

  • Doors open an hour prior to curtain to help familiarize patrons with the spaces and experiences they will encounter during their visit.
  • Access to a Social Story Guide to social information about the experience of attending the performance.
  • The Merch table will have complimentary fidget toys and earplugs.
  • A comprehensive guide explaining what to expect for each scene/number, as well as calming sensory tape, is free to pick up in the lobby

DURING THE PERFORMANCE

  • House lights remain on at a low level in the theater during the performance.
  • Sound levels are lowered, especially startling or loud sounds, while preserving the original sound quality.
  • A reduction of strobe lighting and lighting focused on the audience
  • Patrons have the freedom to talk and leave their seats during the performance.
  • Entering and exiting the auditorium will be allowed throughout the performance.
  • The lobby monitor will allow patrons to continue watching the performance if they need to leave the seating area at any point during the performance.

Summer Stock Austin Sensory Friendly Performances:

A relaxed show with lower volume, reduced sound and lighting effects, softer house lights, and the freedom to move about as needed − ideal for guests with sensory sensitivities, young children, and anyone who prefers a gentler theatre experience.
