Volunteer

Our dedicated volunteers are an essential part of the Texas Performing Arts team. Do you love the arts, enjoy creating great experiences, and like working with others? Join us as a volunteer!

About Volunteering

We want our guests to have a great time. Whether scanning tickets, handing out programs, or guiding audience members to their seats, our volunteers are the welcoming face of Texas Performing Arts.

Volunteering requires a commitment to work a minimum of 15 events per season (September 1 to August 31). Our events range from Broadway shows to touring concerts and comedy, and internationally renowned dance companies to university commencements and everything in between. Volunteers must be able to work in any assigned usher position in all our venues. Volunteers occasionally must stand for long periods of time and must be comfortable ascending and descending stairs. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older.

Volunteer Benefits

  • The opportunity to be part of a team that makes the magic of live performance happen.
  • A chance to meet people who also love and support the arts.
  • The opportunity to see the performances you work on (although this perk is never guaranteed).
Although I thoroughly enjoy the range of plays, musicals, and concerts offered at Bass and the other UT performing arts venues, my primary reason for volunteering is I enjoy serving the public. And while service opportunities abound in Central Texas, I stay at Texas Performing Arts simply because I feel appreciated by the staff and the public we serve. Thank you for all the extra effort!”
I've been ushering for more than 20 years because I love theater. There are so many different forms - plays, musicals, concerts, comedians, lectures, etc. They all have something to offer - sometimes philosophy, sometimes laughter, sometimes views on life from an angle that cause me to think differently. It's very rewarding.”
We come back because we love working with all the other ushers and house managers, and we love being able to see new shows, especially shows that we might not have thought about seeing otherwise. It's great to see the diversity in the guests that come to the shows, talking with them, and seeing how excited they are for the evening. It really has opened our eyes to a whole new world!”
