“An artistic approach can speak to the heart and the soul in ways that speaking to the head does not.”
Retired Army Chaplain (COL) David Forden

Texas Performing Arts opens the 2014-2015 Season with the world premiere of BASETRACK LIVE, a multimedia experience that delves into the human cost of war, September 11-13 at McCullough Theatre. This multimedia theatrical production uses live music, journalism, and technology to spark a conversation about the legacy of war.

BASETRACK LIVE is adapted from the popular Facebook page and website of photographs and videos taken by embedded journalist Teru Kuwayama, who launched the pages to enable military families to communicate with their loved ones in Afghanistan during 2010 and 2012. The photographs and videos posted set into motion a social media effort that attracted over 5,000,000 hits.

Produced by the innovative theatre company En Garde Productions, BASETRACK LIVE takes actual text from these social media sites and pairs it with interviews with Marines filmed while in the theater of war to create an educational, moving, and inspirational theatrical work for all ages. Directed by Seth Bockley, the production shares the stories of those stationed abroad and their families as they struggle to cope with separation and the uncertainties of war. It combines a rotating cast of actors with a lush symphonic score by Michelle DiBucci and text adapted by Jason Grote.

BASETRACK LIVE is made possible with funding by the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Theater Project, with lead funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. This performance is supported in part by the Topfer Endowment for Performing Arts Production.

Texas Performing Arts is offering a limited number of $12 tickets to active and retired military personnel for BASETRACK LIVE and all other Texas Performing Arts 2014-2015 season performances (excludes Broadway and special engagements). A military id is required. For a schedule of upcoming 2014-2015 season performances, please visit www.TexasPerformingArts.org.
