“This ensemble of 15 from Quebec City delivered a sterling demonstration of period instrument panache. The whole program had an infectious energy. And, for all of the obvious discipline and fine-honing in the execution, there was an air of spontaneity, too.” Baltimore Sun

“Emmanuel Pahud is poised to become the world’s premiere flutist.” – Washington Post

Celebrated flutist Emmanuel Pahud joins Canada’s distinguished string orchestra Les Violons du Roy for an extraordinary evening of chamber music, October 26 at Bass Concert Hall.

Widely acclaimed for the exceptional energy, brilliance, and vitality of its performances in the world’s major venues, Les Violons du Roy borrows its name from the renowned string orchestra of the court of the French Kings. Music director Bernard Labadie brought the group together in 1984, which has a core membership of fifteen players. Les Violons Du Roy performs in the stylistic manner most appropriate to each era and specializes in the vast repertoire of music for chamber orchestra.

Emmanuel Pahud is internationally recognized as one of the greatest flutists of our time. He was one of the youngest principal players at the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra when he was appointed in 1992. His innate musicality and extraordinary technique created a great demand for him as a chamber musician, and in this context, he has collaborated with most of the world’s top soloists. His regular recital partners include: Eric Le Sage, Hélène Grimaud, Yefim Bronfman, and jazz pianist Jacky Terrasson.
