About Robert L. Tocker

Robert L. Tocker graduated from The University of Texas at Austin, and then served as an Assistant Battalion Surgeon in Korea. After service, Robert graduated from The University of Texas Dental School in Houston and had a successful dental practice in Austin for many years.

Tocker dedicated much of his time to volunteering. For over 2 decades, he was a volunteer usher at Texas Performing Arts for various performances and University events. He was particularly proud to work commencement ceremonies because he enjoyed seeing students achieve their graduation goal and begin the next phase of their lives.

In February 2014, he and his wife Barbara were the honored recipients of the Doty Award, the highest honor given by the College of Fine Arts at The University of Texas at Austin. The Grand Staircase at Bass Concert Hall is named in honor of Robert Tocker’s generosity and commitment to Texas Performing Arts and the students of The University of Texas at Austin. He died peacefully in Austin on June 8, 2015 surrounded by family and friends.
