Lyle Lovett Engages Students

LYLE LOVETT ENGAGES STUDENTS AT BASS CONCERT HALL
AS PART OF TEXAS PERFORMING ARTS’
POPED 101 PROGRAM

Before his recent show at Bass Concert Hall, Lyle Lovett and His Large Band hosted a group of University of Texas and Austin Community College students at sound check and engaged them in a Q&A session with the entire band sitting at the front of the stage. The students then came back that evening to see Lyle and His Large Band perform before a capacity crowd. This experience was made possible by Texas Performing Arts’ PopEd 101 program, which is generously underwritten by National Instruments.
Each season Texas Performing Arts brings a number of performances by popular artists. PopEd 101 offers students opportunities to learn about the commercial music business utilizing these performers and the highly skilled technical and production crews that travel with them. Students learn about careers and training for such areas as booking, marketing and production.

PopEd 101 activities include Pre-performance Q & A sessions and sound checks with the artists; Technical and production crews discussing their careers and training with area students; Artists leading workshops related to their artistic field; and Complimentary tickets to performances for participating students.

Past artists participating in PopEd 101 events include Dwezzil Zappa, Citizen Cope, Broken Social Scene, and Flight of the Conchords.
