Bass Concert Hall

TEXAS PERFORMING ARTS’
BASS CONCERT HALL
IS AUSTIN’S MOST POPULAR ENTERTAINMENT VENUE
RANKED #18 ON THE
POLLSTAR TOP 100 WORLDWIDE THEATRE VENUES
FOR 2012 MID-YEAR TICKET SALES

July 25, 2012 – Texas Performing Arts’ flagship venue Bass Concert Hall has been ranked number 18 (mid-year ranking) on the top 100 Worldwide Theatre Venues with 114,956 tickets sold for events between January 1 and June 30, 2012, according to Pollstar, the trade journal for touring artists, booking agents, and performance venues. This not only ranks Bass Concert Hall as Austin’s highest ticket-selling venue, but the number 2 theater in Texas behind the number 9 ranked Verizon Theatre at Grand Prairie. This positions Bass Concert Hall in the company of major venues such as New York’s Radio City Music Hall and the Fox Theatre in Atlanta and Detroit.

Bass Concert Hall, which reopened in January 2009 after an 18-month, $14.7 million renovation, seats approximately 2,924 patrons. Performances on the Bass Concert Hall stage in 2012 include Angelique Kidjo, Daniel Tosh, Kevin Hart, and Jane’s Addiction.

Broadway Across America presents a subscription series at Bass Concert Hall, which included a near capacity three-week engagement of WICKED and very successful one-week runs of LES MISÉRABLES and Disney’s MARY POPPINS. Touring Broadway engagements accounted for a majority of the tickets sold.

Ticket revenue from commercial Broadway and concert programming fuels our ambition to align our work as a university presenter with the academic mission of The University of Texas at Austin. Texas Performing Arts presents significant works of music, theatre, dance, and conversation at five campus venues, as well as a broad slate of campus and community engagement activities. This impressive breadth of programming is not available anywhere else in Central Texas.
